I’m currently sitting outside a Tim Hortons and its a cool 17c/62f. Summer 2018 has come and gone, but we’re still having weather that jumps between both seasons pretty regularly. In just a few months, we’ll be knee deep in snow but for now, I’m concentrating on my favourite time of year; layering season!
Right now, its all about light jackets, cardigans, jeans and booties. For me, its my favourite time of year to play around with transitional wear. Personally, I don’t think this gets talked about enough. I used to dread the in between stage because it can be so difficult to dress for. This morning, I left my house and it was pretty warm outside and now the temperature is dropping significantly. SO, how does one dress for this weather, you might ask? Don’t worry, I GOT you!

My key advice for dressing for this weather is much like my advice for dating; keep your options open. Don’t commit to anything that’s too warm or too cool. Doing so could leave you really uncomfortable, and we all know how much that sucks. Layering is essential for surviving this weather! If the weather feels a little bit chilly in the morning, but its expected to get warmer, wear light clothing but bundle up with a light scarf and jacket.
Removing layers is easy as pie, and you won’t hate yourself later on for wearing that chunky sweater. I know we all can’t wait for official sweater weather, but don’t suffer because you can’t have a little patience! Denim jackets, light bombers and cardigans are some of my favourite parts of the fall and it would be a shame to miss out on that!
If you’re not much for layering, I highly suggest sticking to lighter clothing and adding at least a chunkier jacket on top. I love a good, lightweight dress and a leather or denim jacket overtop. Thinner tights are essential as well, since they can help keep you cool without overly heating you up.
I can’t go without mentioning my personal fav; booties! Not only are these suckers cute as hell, but they also serve a pretty important purpose. My feet are most likely to get cold the fastest with this soggy weather, so having a bootie is essential in keeping me warm. But let’s not forget how awful TOO warm can feel. Booties are a god send, and they’re also highly important for making your look scream “ITS AUTUMN BITCHES!”
Below are some transitional pieces that I think are perfect for autumn weather. Make sure you click the photo to take you directly to the piece. Ps, let me know what are YOUR favourite ways to transition to fall weather!
I could probably go on and on and on, but I think you all get the point. Again, let me know what you do to transition your wardrobe and what pieces you seem to buy every year.
