I can count on both hands how many time’s I’ve been to weddings, and most of them were during my childhood. One wedding in particular stands out from all the rest because I was given the coveted role of “flower girl.” There is something so intriguing about watching a flower girl or ring bearer make their journey down the aisle. I silently root for them to bring a brief moment of entertainment, anything to help me forget my singleness. Sometimes you’ll see a melt down, lets face it weddings are long and even most adults would splay out on the floor screaming from lack of sleep and nourishment. Others make a b-line for their mothers waving them away or to “just keep going.” But some children shine in the moment, focused meticulously on laying the flowers beneath their tiny toes or tossing them carelessly into the air if only to see the flowers shower themselves, maybe they even shower others.
