Ok ok, I will stop using that pun…

I took a little step out of my comfort zone to try a dress that I have been eyeing up on ASOS Curve for a few weeks – a patchwork embroidered kimono dress.

I usually steer clear of high necks, baggier dresses, and non wiggle shapes – but I was pleasantly surprised by this little number. It’s sometimes nice to be able to relax a bit more in a dress and not worry about shapewear or belts, whilst still feeling pretty and put together – and this dress ticked those boxes for me.

The fit information on the ASOS website led me to believe that I would need to size up. It has no stretch and is ‘cut close to the body’, and so I went for this in a 20 expecting to need a 22 because of my 53 inch hips. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the fit and the amount of room I still had left. An 18 might also have fit, but the 20 looks and feels pretty spot on.

In fact my only gripe with the dress was the fact that the back has an annoyingly low slit, meaning that even my well fitted and relatively low bra band was on show. I would say that the dress would be easy to adjust should you not want your bra to show – a couple of extra hooks and eyes would do the job. Or maybe you could wear a fancy bra and make the most of it!

But aside from that it is a lovely dress. The pattern is busy without over powering, the fabric isn’t static or easy to crease, and it suits my gorgeous sequinned clutch and velvet shoes really perfectly.

What are your thoughts on this stunning dress?
