This past Friday I turned 21 years old, and it was one of the happiest weekends of my life. Since 21 is a hallmark year, I wanted to wear something special that was timeless, but also analogous to my vivacious personality. I ended up choosing a bright orange maxi dress by Halston Heritage not only because it fit my aforementioned requirements, but also because I knew it would really accentuate my dark skin tone. The silhouette of the dress screamed "Youthful Elegance", which is exactly the look I was going for! I decided to rent the dress from Rent The Runway - I will admit, I was a bit weary of renting it seeing as it would be my first time, but everything ran smoothly. For more details on the dress, designer, and or my experience with RTR, continue reading below. These photos are from my birthday brunch at PRANNA - an amazing restaurant with awesome weekend brunches!
If you’re anything like me, attending tons of events and trying to find outfits for every single one can become pretty pricey; especially as a college student. I actually wrote a post entitled Tricks of the Trade outlining this issue and tactics you can use to look great on a budget here. I bring this up because RTR is another wonderfully affordable solution to this problem.
For those of you unfamiliar with Rent The Runway, it’s a membership based website where you can rent high end dresses and accessories. The Halston Heritage dress that I rented typically retails at roughly $565, but through RTR I only had to shell out $68 – huge difference. It came with a backup size (free of charge) just in case my initial size didn’t fit, and I rented it across a 4 day period (you can rent dresses across a timeline of 4 or 8 days). The dresses arrived neatly packaged in a garment bag, which was mine to keep, and on the fourth day I simply had to drop them off at a UPS store location in a prepaid envelope that came with the dresses. The dress itself was absolutely gorgeous and I received tons of compliments – my pictures don’t even do it justice. The entire process was affordable, simple, and stress free. All in all, I had a great experience with RTR and can definitely see myself renting from them in the future for big events.
